Hunting for an apartment in Manhattan is one of life’s special miseries. Today I hauled around Chelsea in the blistering heat so that I could marvel at an overpriced fifth-floor walkup railroad-style two bedroom. Both bedrooms were windowless, and one of them didn’t even have a door, but, hey, at least it was actually a two bedroom instead of one of those one bedroom apartments that they advertise on Craigslist as a “cozy two bedroom.” Apparently four girls used to live their together. Talk about gauche.

The problem in Manhattan is that everyone seems to work and live like rats in cells. Okay, I admit that I sound bitter, but I am currently riding on the MegaBus from New York to Boston (it’s a steal at $13.50 for a one-way ticket), and it’s creeping up to the seventh hour, since after two hours, our non-English speaking driver informed us “the tire is smoking” and we were forced to wait on the side of the highway somewhere in Connecticut for a new bus to come several hours later.

I guess that’s what you get for a $13.50 bus ride to Boston. I just hope that the railroad-style apartments hold up better than the bus tires.
