The Kids Are All Right, the new film by lesbian auteur director, Lisa Cholodenko, is one of the best family comedy/dramas that I’ve seen in years. Think of it as Little Miss Sunshine meets It’s Complicated. I never imagined that Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as lesbian mothers could provide such slapstick comedy, but just imagine two middle-aged women with an electronically-enhanced sex session that involves gay trucker porn.
On the other hand, it’s a heartfelt comedy about adolescent struggles, overbearing parents, and the strangeness of finding out at age 18 that your biological father is super fox Mark Ruffalo.
If you haven’t yet, go see The Kids Are All Right, because there’s nothing like a little familial dysfunction, lesbianism, cheating, red wine, frustrated teenagers, and organic farming to get through the sweaty summer months.

I hope they bring this one to my town when they bring back the Cinema Arts Series on Wednesdays this fall. This sounds like a good one.
