When two people break up, it’s inevitable that there will be an awkward run-in on the street a couple of months later, or perhaps even a “let’s be friends” coffee when the girl tries to act breezy and the guy tries to act like he suddenly has a high-powered career and lots of sex.

But it is never normal in the post-breakup scenario for the ex-boyfriend to invite the ex-girlfriend out for an elegant lunch, give her a hand-written love poem, and then say, “No, I haven’t changed. I just thought you could continue to be a romantic convenience in my life, sort of like my new leather club chair.”

When a man treats a woman like a piece of furniture, that’s when she should contact her blogger friend to write a Wanker of the Week post in his honor.
