I attended “Speech Day” at Stowe School this weekend in Buckingham, England. A friend of mine was receiving a prize for mathematics. In typical British form, there was a vintage car show on the campus’ front lawn, with Aston Martins, Morgans, beautiful old Jaguars, big-ass Bentleys, etc. etc. Numerous cricket matches had been advertised on the day’s program, but of course, the dreadful, rainy weather left everyone to drink indoors with no sporting spectacle to entertain them.
It was worth the trip just to ogle the absurd proportions of the house and grounds and all the British families acting just like they do in Jane Austen novels. It’s funny how some things never change.
